Portfolio of parts manufacture and repair
5″ gauge ‘Manor’ bogie wheels
Replacement part (2014): the new wheels were machined from cast iron wheel castings, to ‘GL5’ (Ground Level 5″ gauge wheel profile, track gauge, and running gauge) standards.
¾” and 1″ BSPT (British Standard Pipe Thread) fusible plug bodies
New part manufactured (2015): new fusible plug bodies were manufactured from phosphor bronze PB102, tinned, leaded and pressure-tested.
Water gauge fittings on a Burrell SRL traction engine
Part overhauled and repaired (2015): the water gauge fittings were leaking and out of alignment.
The water gauge was re-packed and re-aligned, and a new gauge glass and seams fitted.
Cylinder head for 1926 Morris Oxford ‘bullnose’
Part remachined (2017): the cylinder head had a crack in it, and needed refacing.
Inspection door for a Burrell SRL traction engine
New part manufactured (2014): a new inspection door was needed, as the original was beyond economical repair.
It was manufactured from boiler plate BS1501 ¾” (19mm) thick, machined from solid to the original pattern.
Mechanical boiler feed pump body
Part repaired (2015): the body was cracked and there was porosity in previous brazed repairs. These were repaired by grinding out and filling with Easy-flo no.2 silver solder.
The pump body was then hydrostatically tested.
